These fierce foodies can accommodate your needs. Come on down and enjoy live music courtesy of Dylan and Drums, while sinking your teeth into legendary Jalapeño Poppers— the combination of cream cheese and sweet chili sauce will delight your tastebuds.

LMThe most rewarding thing about being a local Boulder food truck, is serving people from our hometown—People that are in our lives, or might not be, but we are serving our community—Our peeps. We are also supporting our community by buying local and supporting our farmers.

 

8z: Any favorite items on your own menu?

 

LM: Everything you see on our menu is a favorite of ours, that’s why it has stayed on our menu. Everything equally sells, although a couple classic favorites are our Bulgogi Tacos and Jalapeño Poppers.

June’s Market Update for Crest View

As your local 8z REALTOR and market expert, it is my pleasure to offer you this current market update in Boulder’s Crest View and Carolyn Heights neighborhoods. Stay tuned throughout the year as I present updated information for this neighborhood’s market.

 

It was a stellar May in Crest View. Closings almost tripled in volume with 7 closings, totaling $6,1787,250 vs. 3 closings in April totaling $2,190,000.

 

In May, there were 7 total closings in Crest View, which was a significant increase over the previous month's number of closings.

There were 10 new properties that hit the Crest View market in May. This was a much needed addition to the limited inventory that was on hand, and to compensate for the 7 closings that depleted the inventory by 37%.

 

7 of the 10 new listings are between $949,000 and $1,500,000. At last we have a selection of homes in this once price point void in the Crest View market. This inventory, of newer, larger homes on good sized lots, will be quickly snagged by families trying to move over the summer.

The number of new listings doubled from last month and was the highest new quantity in one month since I have been doing this report. The number of homes that went under contract in May went down so June closings will most likely be down from May.

 

Sellers are definitely hearing the news that its a good time to sell and getting their homes ready and on the market. The average days on market increased because three of the closings were properties that had been on the market for over 300 days. The only inventory still on the market after 300+ days is 1725 Upland and 2158/60 Tamarack.

 

Summer is always a great time to sell as families are trying to move prior to the start of the school season. Although inventory went up 20% from the last several months, we are still at a 3.8% absorption rate favoring sellers.

Mind the Wildlife

The continues existence of wildlife and wilderness is important to the quality of life of humans,” states Jim Fowler, famous US wildlife correspondent and zoologist. This is the season to keep an eye out for Boulder’s orphaned and injured wildlife. A wonderful institution that supports the cause of the county’s small mammals and birds is the “Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center” in Lyons. Located on Ute Hwy. 66, just a short 15 minute drive from Crest View, this nonprofit organization is dedicated to rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned wildlife for release into appropriate habitats.

 

Greenwood was founded in 1982 by the the Gneiser family and is one of the largest wildlife rehabilitation centers along the Front Range in Colorado. Between 2,000 and 3,000 animals representing over 130 different wildlife species including squirrels, bunnies, racoons, red foxes, and different birds take shelter at Greenwood each year. If you encounter a small mammal or bird in need, a great overview for “I found a mammal now what?” can be found here.

 

Greenwood also hosts different educational, age-appropriate events from preschoolers to senior citizens. Interested in getting involved in this great organization? You can sponsor an animal, volunteer, or apply for an internship at Greenwood.

The Rocket Ship Library

Spaceship II

 

Have you every noticed the funky rocket art sculpture sitting in the little square behind Lucky’s Market? The “Spaceship” was installed in September 2012 as part of the North Boulder Little Libraries initiatives. This program created six free lending libraries in Boulder  to focus on the community’s need for inventive resources, and to promote different local artists’ works. The “Spaceship” was the first Little Libraries sculpture. “Enjoy, return and share something of your own,” is the engraved motto of this unique community project.

Sponsored by Lucky’s Market and sculpture artist Jimmy Descant, this project is also supported by the North Boulder Community, the Boulder Public Library and Commissioners, and the Boulder City Council. The “Spaceship” features books, paintings and games. You can even call the spaceship’s creator, Jimmy Descant, to hear him talk about his work: 888-827-8566,  mention art number 8000, LookNumber 1. Descant has been creating assemblage art for years, scouting for parts in thrift stores and flea markets. His “recycled art” features many unusual, inspiring styles.

Poppies & Memorial Day

Poppies

 

Memorial Day is the second most popular holiday in the US, celebrated to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service. Many people celebrate this holiday with joyous family reunions and elaborate barbecues. Did you know, however, that some people wear poppies inspired by John McCrae’s In Flanders Fields WWI poem? Famed for his vivid war prose, Major John McCrae, a Canadian military doctor and artillery commander, composed In Flanders Fields after a battle in early May, 1915. The poem’s illustrative language captures Memorial Day’s historic legacy:

 

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

 

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
